Picnic

More and more customers of online supermarket Picnic are taking advantage of the option to have the delivery driver take back returns from other retailers. Last year, this amounted to half a million packages.

Record number of deposit bottles too

Since 2020, delivery drivers for online supermarket Picnic have been collecting DHL parcels, such as returns from online stores, from customers. Last year, the online supermarket entered into a similar partnership with PostNL. This appears to be proving successful: last year, Picnic collected almost half a million return parcels from customers using both services.

In the cities of Utrecht, The Hague, and Rotterdam, relatively more people sent a parcel back via the online supermarket. In absolute terms, Picnic’s delivery drivers collected the most parcels in the provinces of South Holland, North Holland, and North Brabant. In addition, a record number of deposit bottles and cans were collected from doorsteps, almost 50 percent more than Picnic itself sold.

This is evident from an analysis of the order data of 1.5 million Dutch households for 2025.
