[Opinion] Which course for Jumbo without its captain Frits van Eerd?

Former Jumbo CEO Frits van Eerd has been sentenced to two years in prison in the criminal case involving car dealer Theo E. A heavy blow for him, but also for Jumbo: what can the yellow ship do without its captain plotting the course?

Nothing will be the same

Van Eerd was given a two-year prison sentence today: the judge ruled even more harshly than the Public Prosecution had asked. Van Eerd maintains his innocence, saying that he is just purely an entrepreneur at heart. He is indeed a very skilled entrepreneur, which he has proven more than once at the family’s supermarket chain. More to the point: without Van Eerd, Jumbo seems adrift. Not because the ship is leaking, but because the captain is missing.
