Now a Dutch judge has labelled Frits van Eerd’s actions as fraudulent and detrimental to Jumbo, the supermarket chain can not go on by simply calling it a private matter. Its former CEO is still an important shareholder, so what should Jumbo do with Van Eerd now?

Painful dilemma

The conviction of former Jumbo CEO Frits van Eerd to two years in prison for bribery, money laundering and forgery puts the supermarket chain in an awkward position. The owning family had always closed ranks around founder Karel van Eerd’s son: after all, the whole thing was labelled as “a private matter.”
