Carrefour Belgium has opened a new AI-powered BuyBye micro store at the Ibis Hotel Brussels Midi. The autonomous store is available to hotel guests day and night.
“The future of retail”
Arnaud Lesne, Innovation Director at Carrefour Belgium, shared the news on LinkedIn: “Following our successful launch at Ibis Roissy CDG last July, we are scaling up with our very first international location at IBIS hotel Brussels Midi station. We are bringing the future of retail to the heart of Brussels: a seamless, autonomous, and 24/7 shopping experience driven by cutting-edge AI. It’s a proud moment to see our vision for smooth travel retail expanding across borders.”
In July, the retailer started a partnership with hotel group Accor, opening a Carrefour BuyBye in the Ibis Styles hotel Roissy CDG, near Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport. Hotel guests open the refrigerator doors using their bank card or payment app and select their products. These are then automatically recognized, weighed, and paid for. The technology behind the stores comes from Portuguese startup Reckon.ai.
Carrefour Belgium had previously launched the BuyBye concept at its own headquarters in Zaventem, at the Brussels headquarters of advertising group Publicis, and at SHAPE, NATO’s military base in Bergen.
