With an investment of tens of millions of dollars, second-hand app Vinted now wants to replicate its European success in the United States, says CEO Thomas Plantenga. The company does not see sustainability as the most important argument in this regard.
Increasing brand awareness
In November last year, Vinted announced an initial trial in New York. Initially, New Yorkers were able to buy second-hand fashion directly from European sellers, and vice versa. Now the company is taking the next step: in the coming months, Vinted wants to invest tens of millions of dollars in further expansion in the US, Plantenga said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. The aim is to increase brand awareness while optimizing the platform for a larger American customer base.
