Carrefour Belgium looks back with great satisfaction on the first Sunday opening of its integrated Markets and hypermarkets on January 18. Shoppers particularly appreciated the Sunday promotions.
165,000 pastries, 2,200 roast chickens
Although some media reports speak of a rather quiet first Sunday opening, Carrefour notes that customers found their way to the stores. “This confirms that there is a real demand for flexibility and that the strategy of being open seven days a week—both physically and online—responds to changing consumption habits,” the retailer said in a press release.
The interest in the wide range of products offered by the hypermarkets was striking: customers did not just come for food, they also took advantage of the unique opportunity to buy non-food items on Sunday and enjoy the sliding prices. According to the retailer, the promotions in the brochure, the weekend promotions, and the special Sunday promotions were a huge success. In just a few hours, 165,000 pastries and 2,200 roast chickens flew off the shelves.
Operationally, everything went smoothly thanks to the efforts of the teams. The retailer found enough colleagues who were willing to work on Sunday. “This promising start reinforces the belief that Carrefour will further consolidate its position as market leader on Sundays with this expansion,” they say.
