A new sliding price mechanism rewards Carrefour customers with discounts of 5 to 10% when they buy multiple items from a range of essential products. The “Price Biter” is also making a comeback.
Volume discounts
Carrefour Belgium is introducing a sliding price system for 200 essential everyday products. Specifically, this involves volume discounts: customers who buy one item pay the regular price, while those who buy two or more items automatically receive a 5% discount, and those who buy three or more items receive a 10% discount. The discount applies to products such as Materne apricot compote (375g), Carrefour tagliatelle (500g), Carrefour Dessert coffee capsules (20 pieces) and Coca-Cola Light in cans (6x33cl).
At the same time, the retailer is also bringing back the “Price Biter”, the recognizable character that alerts customers to competitively priced products, price reductions, and promotions. The character is now in its third edition and this time – in keeping with the winter season – is wearing a red scarf. Carrefour is rolling out a 360° campaign via TV, radio, social media, posters, and in-store signage.
