Belgian pet store chain Tom&Co has acquired Pharmapets, the largest online pet pharmacy in the country. In doing so, the retailer significantly strengthens its e-commerce business and expands to the Netherlands.
Innovative business model
Pharmapets today accounts for sales of 45 million euros: the company, founded in 2017, experienced strong growth thanks to an innovative business model with an emphasis on services, including consultations at the vet or the creation of personalised health plans. Meanwhile, a third of its turnover already comes from subscriptions.
The e-commerce company is active in four countries (Belgium, France, Luxembourg and The Netherlands). Its new owner, Tom&Co, is currently only active in Belgium, France and Luxembourg, but its ambitious shareholders aim to challenge Maxi Zoo’s position as European market leader.
