Pieter-Bas Stehmann will head EK Sport, the sports division of EK Retail, from 5 January. The former chief of Dutch Bedding Company will thus take charge of Intersport, Runnersworld, and hundreds of independent affiliated sports retailers.
“Sports are becoming increasingly important”
“The themes of sports, exercise, and health are becoming increasingly important to consumers. We are convinced that Pieter-Bas Stehmann’s open mind, innovative strength, and clear, results-oriented management style will significantly stimulate the development of the business unit. We look forward to a successful collaboration,” says Gertjo Janssen, chief retail officer of EK Retail.
Stehmann joins from Dutch Bedding Company (DBC International), where he has been managing director since 2018 and responsible for the international strategy of all brands. Prior to that, he held senior management positions at Levi’s/Dockers, Columbia Sportswear, Mexx, and Miss Etam, among others, in both Europe and Asia.
EK Sport has been supporting independent entrepreneurs with brands, joint purchasing, and support since 1978. The division is part of the EK Group, which serves around 3,800 independent entrepreneurs with approximately 7,500 points of sale in various European countries.
