Wibra plans to open five more Belgian stores before the year is over, after opening its 65th Belgian store yesterday. This would mean the chain almost doubled its store network since the relaunch five years ago.
Wider assortment
Wibra opened its 65th Belgian store in a building in Sint-Truiden where the bankrupt Casa used to be. The discounter is also taking vacant Casa store premises in some other towns. By the end of this year, the chain aims to have seventy stores in Belgium, twelve more than at the end of last year. An additional store will open this month in Lommel.
The company is growing strongly since the relaunch in October 2020, then with just 36 stores. This is due to a new store concept and a wider assortment that complements that of other non-food discounters: “Our customer is also the customer of other discount chains“, Country Director Claudine Nachtergaele told Trends Z. The retailer targets both bargain hunters and people who want to keep their budget under control by necessity.
Incidentally, the retail chain is also booming in the Netherlands: Wibra opened no fewer than nine new stores there in July. The company announced this on LinkedIn. Last year, Wibra managed to increase its sales by 22.7 % to 286 million euros. Meanwhile, the chain also opened its second store in France.
