John Furner, soon to be Walmart‘s new CEO, believes that consumers will soon be making their purchases via an AI chatbot instead of in a web store or app. Walmart is therefore giving Gemini, Google‘s AI assistant, full access to its product range so that customers can also order directly via the chatbot.
From searching to conversing
The American retail giant and Google announced the collaboration on Sunday during the National Retail Federation’s Big Show retail trade show in New York, when Walmart’s John Furner appeared on stage alongside Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The companies did not disclose any financial details or mention a launch date. The rollout will start in the United States and then continue internationally.
