The city of San Francisco has filed a lawsuit against ten food giants over their ultra-processed foods. The City Attorney, David Chiu, compares the problem to the tobacco industry, partly because he believes the manufacturers are well aware that their products are harmful.
Ten giants
The ten manufacturers named in the lawsuit are ConAgra Brands, The Coca-Cola Company, General Mills, Kellogg, Kraft Heinz, Mars Incorporated, Mondelez International, Nestlé USA, PepsiCo and Post Holdings. The lawsuit does not seek to ban the products, but it does seek to ban advertising — especially that aimed at children — and to seek damages for what he calls their share in the public health crisis, the LA Times reports.
