Theft in Spanish supermarkets reached historic levels in 2025 and became one of the sector’s main operational problems. Losses due to external theft grew by 60% year-on-year to over 1.66 billion euros, the highest figure ever recorded.
Organized gangs
The data comes from a report by NIQ, produced in collaboration with Checkpoint Systems and the Association of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods Companies (Aecoc). The study shows that 65% of companies suffered an increase in external theft, in many cases linked to organized gangs and repeat offenders.
