European purchasing alliance European Marketing Distribution (EMD) will be welcoming a number of Polish supermarkets as new members next year. Their new joint venture is runner-up in the Polish market.
Increasing sourcing capabilities
A group of Polish local retailers, including Grupa Eurocash, Grupa Chorten and Netto, is planning to set up a joint venture purchasing alliance to join EMD, the purchasing alliance announces in a press release. Following approval from the Polish competition authority and the establishment of the Polish joint venture, the new members will join EMD in 2026.
These Polish retailers represent a total of 20,000 shops across the country and annual sales of over twelve billion euros, making the group the runner-up in Poland. With their EMD membership, these chains aim to increase their European sourcing capabilities, which should translate into lower prices for customers.
EMD buys private label products for its members, including Belgian Colruyt, Dutch Superunie, Italian ESD, German RTG and Swedish Axfood. For some members, it also provides services to multinational A-brand manufacturers through EMD Retail Group.
