Eurocash, Poland’s third-largest supermarket group, is closing 150 stores and laying off 3,000 employees in order to gain competitiveness in a highly competitive market. The retailer sees potential in a franchise model.
Potential: 15,000 stores
To maintain its position in the top three largest Polish food retailers, with a market share of 10% by the end of 2027, Eurocash is announcing a new strategy, transforming the current wholesale model into a franchise network. Cost-cutting measures within the group will reduce the workforce by around 3,000 employees, including nearly 1,000 administrative and office staff.
