On Tuesday, Albert Heijn opened its 40th AH XL store in the Netherlands and Belgium, in Zwolle. It had been two years since the retailer last opened an XL store in the Netherlands.
24 self-scan checkouts
Strictly speaking, this is a reopening: an existing Albert Heijn supermarket was expanded by 600 m² and has therefore been “promoted” to the XL department, with a total surface area of 2,700 m². “Everything has been renovated, from floor to ceiling. The layout and walking route have been completely changed, and there is now much more space for customers and an even more extensive range of products,” says supermarket manager Sjaak Wagenaar.
The very first AH XL opened in Arnhem-Kronenburg in 2002. A week and a half ago, the retailer opened another AH XL in Bruges, but it has been two years since a Dutch AH XL opened its doors: that was in Lent near Nijmegen. The renovated store in Zwolle has an extensive self-scan area with 24 self-scan checkouts and a cash recycler for cash payments, a sushi kiosk, and, above all, much more space for even more products, choice, and convenience for customers.
