In the US, Danone has launched a drinkable yogurt designed specifically for people who want to lose weight using GLP-1 weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy.
Maintaining muscle mass
Oikos Fusion is designed to support muscle preservation and digestion while losing weight with GLP-1 medications. The product contains 23 grams of protein, 5 grams of prebiotic fiber, and vitamins such as D, B3 and B12. It is also lactose-free and contains no added sugars. Oikos Fusion is available in three flavors: strawberry, mixed forest fruit and vanilla.
So-called GLP-1 weight-loss drugs are enjoying increasing popularity: some 10% of the U.S. population is now said to be using them or have tried them. One of the side effects is that they prefer smaller portions due to reduced appetite. Moreover, when losing weight, users see that some one-fifth of weight loss is due to loss of muscle mass. This protein-rich innovation aims to remedy that.
Danone is not alone in capitalizing on this trend. Conagra and Nestle, among others, have already launched products aimed at consumers taking GLP-1 medications.
