Carrefour Belgium has opened an autonomous BuyBye microstore in an Ibis hotel north of Paris. Hotel guests will thus have 24/7 access to a range of breakfast, lunch and snack products.
AI technology
Carrefour Belgium and French hotel group Accor have opened a Carrefour BuyBye at the Ibis Styles hotel Roissy CDG, close to Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport. The 6m² micro shop is the first artificial intelligence-powered autonomous shop in a hotel, says Carrefour. The retailer previously rolled out the BuyBye concept at its own headquarters in Zaventem, at the Brussels headquarters of advertising group Publicis and at SHAPE, NATO’s military base in Mons.
Carrefour BuyBye works with smart refrigerators and AI technology. Hotel guests open the fridge doors via their bank card or payment app and choose their products. These are then automatically recognised, weighed and paid for. The system ensures a smooth and effortless shopping experience, ideal for travellers with busy schedules or late arrivals. Carrefour mentions “the beginning of a promising partnership with Accor”: so more openings seem to be planned.
