Tensions are escalating between Unilever and Ben & Jerry’s. Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of the ice cream brand, is stepping down. He “can no longer in good conscience” remain with a company that he says has been “silenced” by Unilever.
“Sidelined”
“Standing up for the values of justice, equality and our shared humanity has never been more important, and yet Ben & Jerry’s has been silenced, sidelined, for fear of antagonizing those in power,” Greenfield wrote in an open letter. He stressed that the founders had negotiated a unique merger agreement exactly to ensure the brand’s independence.
