Marks & Spencer is now also operating in Australia, through a deal luxury department store chain David Jones. It is the first international fashion wholesale deal for the British retailer.
Growing globally
In 24 department stores (and the webshop), Marks & Spencer will sell a range of its best-selling lingerie, womenswear and sleepwear from this week. It is the first collaboration with an external retailer for M&S Fashion, but the retailer does already sell food at American chain Target since 2022.
The British chain considers the time favourable to revive its international business, as company is experiencing strong momentum in its home market, in food, fashion, home and beauty. Moreover, the effects of the recent cyber attack seem to be largely digested.
International Managing Director Mark Lemming therefore sees opportunities to grow M&S globally: “This is a market which has always shared longstanding and strong links with the UK and where brand recognition is high“, he told The Times. “With a shared set of values surrounding quality, innovation and trust, David Jones is the perfect partner as we take our first venture into a partnership in fashion.”
