More than six weeks after a cyber attack completely halted Marks & Spencer e-commerce operations, the British retailer’s was finally able to partly re-open its webshop. However, not all the problems are over yet.
300 million pounds in damage
M&S customers in England, Scotland and Wales can place their online orders again since today. However, e-commerce operations are not yet fully operational: customers in Northern Ireland will have to wait for several more weeks and initially only bestsellers and new products will be available.
“We will be bringing products online everyday so customers will see that grow over the coming days”, a spokesperson told Reuters. Click and collect, next-day delivery and international orders will be re-added in the coming weeks, the company added.
The M&S webshop was inaccessible for 46 days, due to a cyber attack in April, which also impacted supplies to its physical stores. The retailer estimates total damage at around 300 million pounds (over 350 million euros), although some of that amount could be recovered through insurance.
