Aldi is replacing paper price labels with digital ones in all its Belgian stores this year. The chain promises faster price updates and clear distinction between promotions, novelties and savings offers.
Faster updates
Digital price tags enable the discounter to respond even faster to discounts or promotions: “Working with digital price tags is much more efficient. With one click, we are able to adjust a price immediately in all our stores”, Aldi Belgium’s sales manager Céline Rotthier said in a press release. “As a discounter, we are constantly looking for ways to make our operation as simple as possible. The costs we save by doing this, allow us to further lower our prices.”
The implementation will start in the provinces East- and West-Flanders. By the end of the year, all 445 Belgian stores should be equipped with electronic price displays.
Clear colour codes
Because Belgian shoppers pay close attention to clear price info, Aldi is keeping the dimensions of the labels the same as their paper predecessors. This keeps legibility intact while eliminating paper consumption.
The new displays use four colours, each with its own function: red marks lowered prices or promotions, white stands for regular prices of the fixed assortment, black indicates new products and yellow indicates that an item earns bonus points through the new digital loyalty card.
