Belgian app G4U brings radical price transparency among supermarkets

Food5 August, 2025

(Advertorial) G4U aims to put an end to misleading marketing and empty claims about supermarkets offering the lowest prices. The app allows consumers to compare supermarket prices, bundle promotions and redeem receipts for cashback.

The most complete shopping app

G4U is a smart app that helps you save time and money while shopping. You compare prices in different supermarkets per product, immediately see which shops are the cheapest in your neighbourhood and create smart shopping lists that guide you to the cheapest shops. You can scan or upload your receipts (digital or on paper) and earn points. With those points, you claim rewards and cashbacks. Moreover, you will find all promotional brochures bundled in one place, and purchase and guarantee receipts can also be safely stored in your profile. In short: the first app in Belgium to simplify, personalise and reward the entire shopping process.

Saving up to 500 euros a year

“Many people think they are shopping cheaply, but in reality this is not always the case,” says founder Jordi Gyles. “With G4U, we make it possible to finally really compare prices – transparently, independently and personally.” Indeed, research shows that 62% of Belgians would consider shopping spread across different supermarkets if they were guaranteed to save 500 euros. A test showed that if the G4U app is used correctly and consistently, it is easy to save 500 euros a year.

Market clash

According to founder Gyles, enthusiasm among supermarkets was rather limited. “When I approached the chains profiling themselves as “the cheapest”, I got the door on my nose. It made me wonder: how transparent are these prices really?” According to Gyles, transparency need not be a threat – on the contrary: with the support of supermarkets, the app can become even more powerful, ultimately benefiting their own customer satisfaction and customer loyalty.

From frustration to business idea

The idea for G4U originated five years ago, when founder Jordi Gyles was considering launching a service that would deliver the cheapest groceries to your home. He soon faced an obstacle: price information at supermarkets proved almost untraceable. A challenge that grew into a new mission: to give consumers the tools they need to keep track of their spending. With G4U, he wants to do away with empty slogans and misleading marketing. According to Gyles, supermarkets that really put their customers’ interests first will eventually no longer be able to avoid this transparency.

Spend less, live more

G4U is aimed at a wide audience – from price-conscious families to students and retirees – as long as they can handle a smartphone and want to save time and money. The app is available for iOS and Android, works with a subscription (6.99 euros/month or 69.99 euros/year) and offers a 7-day free trial. In time, Gyles plans to expand the platform to other European countries, and even link it to home delivery by supermarkets. “Spend less, live more,” he sums up. “Because when you know what you save, you can only really start dreaming of what you can do with that extra time and pennies.”

Through the G4U app, you can:

–look up products and immediately see in which supermarkets they are cheapest
-view all promotional leaflets from different supermarkets in one central place
-create smart shopping lists showing which products you buy where at the lowest prices
–scan your receipts and save points for rewards such as cashbacks, products or gadgets
–save purchase and guarantee receipts digitally so you never lose them again
–track your buying behaviour and find out exactly what you save on
