Zeeman’s Frank doing well

Fashion label Frank, invented by discount clothing chain Zeeman to fool visitors of the upmarked Amsterdam Fashion Week, is doing well. In the first days after the presentation a few thousand items a day shipped from the web shop that exclusively sells the Frank label. Now the hype is over, about a hundred items a day are being sold, Jacques van der Bom of Zeeman has told Twinkle Magazine.

Zeeman scored great publicity by presenting its Frank-collection during the Amsterdam Fashion Week, only later announcing its own involvement. Zeeman wanted to show that great fashion does not have to come at a ridiculous price.

A number of the items shown at the Amsterdam Fashion Week are already sold out.

Department store chain Bijenkorf is the number one retailer in ladies fashion, Jack & Jones reign among sellers of men's fashion, research by GfK Panel Services shows.

Bijenkorf keeps chains like Esprit, Open32, Promiss and Miss Etam behind them. The look-and-feel of the stores and the big collection were important bonus aspects for Bijenkorf.

Jack & Jones dethroned Setpoint as the number one among men's fashion retailers after four years. Setpoint is now number two, followed by Shoeby Fashion, Esprit and Open32. Customers at Jack & Jones like the look-and-feel of the stores and are happy with the presence of the latest fashion.

Fashion chain Leon aims for restart

Dutch chain in ladies fashion Leon has been declared bankrupt. The curator is looking for solutions for the future, including the possibility of a new owner buying part of the business.

Leon, founded by Leon Hebbeling in 1922, operates 26 stores in 21 cities in The Netherlands, employing 130 people. Stores remain open until the curator has sorted out the future of the chain, for which he claims there is significant interest.

The curator blames the ‘bad market’ for the decline of Leon, with the owner himself filing for the bankruptcy.

C&A loses second court case in a month

International fashion retailer C&A has for the second time in a month lost a court case against fashion brand G-Star. A judge in The Hague agreed with the brand that the use of the word RAW on clothing on sale at C&A breached the rights of G-Star, that has been using that word for years.

The judge ordered C&A to immediately recall all the clothing. According to G-Star that could be up to 50 percent of the C&A collection aimed at young men. C&A claims it is only a handful of items. C&A is considering an appeal because 'no brand should be able to claim generic terms like RAW'.

Last month C&A had to withdraw clothing from its stores that said D STR after a judge ruled in favour of G-Star.
