Danish Jysk will open another eleven stores in Belgium in 2018, bringing its total to seventeen. The Danish counterpart to Ikea aims to have about 100 stores in Belgium at some point.
Eleven new stores in 2018
Founder Lars Larsen opened the very first Jysk store in Schoten last year and another five have opened since. The Danish store chain announced another eleven store openings for 2018. The first six (Beveren, Hasselt, Oostkamp, Roeselare, Tongeren en Waregem) will open their doors in the summer.
“The first six Belgian stores exceeded our own expectations”, manager for Belgium and Netherlands, Frank Christant, said. “That success motivates us to triple our current Belgian store network this year.” In the long run, the store chain aims to have about 100 stores in Belgium, a smaller-scale counter to its large store competitor Ikea.
Founded in 1979, Jysk currently operates 2,500 stores in 50 countries and generates a 3.36 billion euro turnover. It helped parent company Lars Larsen Group to record results (4 billion euro) in the past fiscal year.
