Walmart has opened its first new Supercenter in four years in Cypress, Texas. With a layout focused on technology and convenience, the hypermarket provides the blueprint for the more than 150 new or remodelled stores the chain wants to (re)open in the coming years.
Omnichannel approach
The opening of a next-generation Supercenter marks the start of an ambitious expansion plan, that will see Walmart open or revamp more than 150 stores. The retailer says the updated concept focuses on convenience, technology and experience to meet the way customers shop today: faster, easier and more connected.
In addition to a refreshed look and feel, the Supercenter offers a broader assortment in key categories. New digital services are accessible via QR codes throughout the store. Walmart says it is combining the best of both worlds (physical and digital) to create a seamless omnichannel journey, while continuing to deliver on its promise of Every Day Low Prices.
Pick-up and delivery
Highlights of the new store include a car maintenance centre, a modern pharmacy with a health room, a Spanish bakery, freshly made sushi and a Dunkin’ store.
Customers can use the Walmart App to schedule the installation of a TV or new car tires. In addition to pick-up options, the store offers a variety of delivery options: in addition to “regular” home delivery, customers can opt for fast delivery (within three hours) or even express delivery (as fast as 30 minutes).
