Following another strong quarter, Action expects to reach the 3,000-store milestone in the second quarter. Last month, the discounter launched successfully in Switzerland.
One new shop per day
Action managed to raise its net sales by 17 % to 3.5 billion euros in the first quarter of this year, with comparable sales up 6.2 %. The retailer opened 49 additional shops, bringing the total to 2,967. Every week, those shops receive an average of 19.7 million customers, which is 2.9 million than in the same period last year.
The retailer says it is on track to open at least one new shop a day on average by 2025, with the number of openings accelerating during the year. As early as the second quarter, the company expects to reach the milestone of 3,000 shops.
Strong start in Switzerland
On 5 April, Action opened its first shop in Switzerland, the thirteenth country for the chain, in Bachenbülach (near Zurich). Switzerland looks just as promising as the existing Action countries, says the retailer, which has already opened two additional shops there. Country number fourteen – Romania – will follow this autumn.
“The world is experiencing a volatile and uncertain start to 2025. In these market conditions, we see consumers continuing to return to Action for their everyday essentials and household purchases”, CEO Hajir Hajji said. “Our unique formula of good quality products at the lowest price, combined with our progress on sustainability, are the key drivers of our rapid growth and that is working everywhere.”
