After Ixelles and Antwerp, Uccle also welcomes an Aldi compact city store. On a smaller surface, the supermarket still offers the full range.

Easily accessible

The new Aldi in the rue de Stalle is the second in the Brussels municipality of Uccle and the 25th in the Brussels region for the discounter. The store is part of the mixed building project “Emerald Garden” which includes 84 flats and office space.

“Rue de Stalle is a central location in Uccle. Whether our customers come by bike or public transport, the shop is very easily accessible,” says Jasper Koch, Senior Manager Expansion at Aldi Belgium. “For example, there is the Stalle tram stop, which is close to the store. Those coming by car can park both above- and underground.”

Three tennis courts

The urban supermarket has a sales area of 735 m², about three tennis courts in size. Yet Aldi manages to offer the full range here, including the wide fresh range and promotions. “For example, we install wall-mounted deep freezers to save space. We are also adjusting the width of the aisles and shopping trolleys, without compromising on shopping comfort,” Koch said.

In November 2022, Aldi opened its first compact city shop in Belgium, on Avenue de la Couronne in Ixelles. With an area of barely 600 m², it is only half the size of an average Aldi supermarket. In Antwerp, the discounter did even better: the shop on Terninckstraat is barely a basketball court’s size, with a floor area of just 374 m².
