Colruyt is introducing a self-developed smart trolley in one of its supermarkets. After testing last year, the “first self-scanning shopping trolley in Belgium” has been completely redeveloped and is ready for use.
Added functions
Thanks to sensors and artificial intelligence, the trolley allows customers to put their groceries directly into the trolley, see discounts instantly and leave without passing a manned check-out. “Through smart sensors and with artificial intelligence, the shopping trolley checks the correct registration and weight of the products. The customer does not have to keep track of what has or has not already been scanned”, Colruyt COO Jo Willemyns said.
