Belgian retailer Colruyt Group expects its own sea farm to yield a volume of 75 tonnes this year, which it will be selling in its four Cru stores and to more than forty restaurants.
From 5 June
For several years, Colruyt Group has been growing mussels in its own sea farm off the coast of Nieuwpoort. These hanging culture mussels have more meat, a cleaner shell and contain no sand. They grow twice as fast as bottom-culture mussels, allowing them to be harvested as early as June. The expected volume of 75 tonnes is almost double that of last year’s 40 tonnes.
The mussels will be on sale from 5 June at the retailer’s four Cru stores (in Antwerp, Dilbeek, Ghent and Overijse). From then on, they will also be on the menu of more than forty restaurants across Belgium, supplied by Solucious, the group’s foodservice division. More and more chefs are backing this Belgian product, Colruyt Group claims.
