Former H&M CEO Helena Helmersson will bring her vast international experience and expertise in sustainability to Spanish fashion group Mango.
Global ambitions
Mango appointed Helmersson as an independent director, the company reported in a press release. The former H&M CEO is an interesting reinforcement for the Spanish fashion retailer, which has big international ambitions. Helmersson has more than twenty years of experience in fashion. She became CEO of H&M in 2020, but had to step down in early 2024 as results fell below expectations.
She was also previously responsible for sustainability at H&M for a while, and since last year she has been president of Circulose, the Swedish circular textile company previously known as Renewcell. Just recently, Mango also invested in Spanish textile recycling company The Post Fiber.
Mango CEO Toni Ruiz praised Helmersson’s expertise, adding her approach will be an invaluable asset that will enrich the company’s leadership team and drive its ambitions forward. The spanish company is reshuffling its management following the unexpected death of founder Isak Andic a few months ago. The family-owned company says it wants to professionalise its governance model in line with international best practices.
