[In the picture] This is Wijnegem’s 30th anniversary treat

Last year, shopping centre Wijnegem – Shop Eat Enjoy near Antwerp treated its customers for its thirtieth anniversary. From 2 September, the mall will treat itself to a full make-over, focusing on experience and sustainability.

Clean looks

A twenty million euro investment will give the shopping hub a fully new look in black and white, with wooden accents. Parisian designer MV Design suggested to change the famous pink floors (all 14,700 sqm of them) – as well as the furniture, info desks and both toilet areas.

Other upgrades include the lighting and wayfinding, featuring more information screens to point customers to the right stores. Stores were given the possibility to raise their fronts, creating a more spacious effect. “A test of the new set-up, with the Jack&Jones store, was very well received”, manager Katrien Geysen points out.

An effort is also put into making the shopping centre more sustainable. Escalators and elevators have already been replaced, while solar panels have been added and technical systems were adapted.

The shopping centre at the edge of Antwerp, Belgium, is still a big hit with visitors: even after 2023 set a very high base line, both footfall (+ 6.16 %) and sales (+ 8.25 %) continued to grow in 2024’s first semester .
