Amazon is closing all Amazon Fresh stores in the United Kingdom and converting five locations into Whole Foods Market. The cashier-less store concept is disappearing from the UK.
Concept stalls after pandemic
The closure affects all 19 Amazon Fresh stores. Five of them will be converted into Whole Foods Market locations, the organic chain that Amazon acquired in 2017. The first Fresh store opened in 2021 in Ealing, West London. The company did not specify how many employees will be affected by the closures but stated that it intends to offer employees other positions within the organization.
