World Beer Award for Rodenbach Rosso and Oud Bruin

Fashion24 September, 2015

Two Belgian category winners

The World Beer Awards are an annual international competition that gives prizes to the best beers, provided they are available both on tap and in a bottled version. Firstly, the beers are placed into regional competitions (Asia, Europe and America) and then the best beer of the world gets chosen.

In the “Dark beer” category, brewery Vander Ghinste’s Oud Bruin won, a beer that seems to improve its standing every year. It won the silver medal on a European level in 2013, the gold medal on European level in 2014 and now a World Beer Award. Oud Bruin is a beer of mixed fermentation, which matured 18 months in oak barrels.

In the “Flavoured beer” category, Rodenbach Rosso won. The beer is based on Rodenbach beer that matured for 2 years in oak casks and is then mixed with young Rodenbach beer. Subsequently, it is partially macerated with cranberries, raspberries and sour cherries, while the natural juices from these red berries are added into the mix as well.

A lot of Belgian winners

Other Belgian brewers were also victorious in their own series: Timmermans‘ Oude Gueuze Limited Edition proved to be the World’s Best Sour Beer 2015 and De Brabandere‘s Petrus Aged Ale was the World’s Best Gose / Other Sour Beer 2015.

Het Anker‘s Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Blauw was the World’s Best Belgian Style Strong 2015, Vintage Rodenbach was the World’s Best Vintage Beer 2015, Vander Ghinste’s Omer was the World’s Best Pale Beer 2015 and Leffe Rituel 9° was the World’s Best Belgian Style Blonde.
