Heineken acquires half of American brewer

Founded in 1993, Lagunitas has been part of the United States’ fastest growing breweries since 2005. It currently has two production locations and is building a third. It should produce up to 1 million hectoliters by the end of the year.

The craft beers have been taking over the United States as sales grow 15 % every year and already represent 10 % of all beers sold in the country. That growth has drawn the attention of major breweries who feel it is a sound investment to acquire stakes in these American breweries. AB InBev and Belgian Duvel Moortgat have also acquired shares in similar American beer breweries.
