Zara opens largest store in Madrid

Fashion7 April, 2017

Spanish fashion chain Zara will open its largest store in Madrid. The new 6,000 sqm store, spread across four floors, is its largest in the world and is located in Madrid’s financial district, on the Paseo de la Castellana.

Larger than New York

Its Fifth Avenue store in New York was the largest Zara store up until now, but the one in the Spanish capital has now trumped the one in New York. It will sell a collection of fashion for women, men and children, but also accessories and is located near a El Corte Inglés department store. The Zara store has technologies like mobile payment services and interactive fitting rooms, things it started adding in 2015 across the formula’s stores.

Zara is Spanish fashion concern Inditex’ most important brand and has another sixteen stores in the Spanish capital alone and about 1,780 stores across Spain.  Soon, it will open a 4,000 sqm store in Paris (Place de l’Opera) and later this year, major stores should open in Japan, Qatar and India.

Parent company Inditex still focuses on growth: its net profit and turnover grew a lot in the past year and it currently has 7,300 stores in 93 countries across all of its brands.

Did Nike exploit import tariffs to earn twice?

Consumers in the U.S. are suing Nike because the sneaker giant is refusing to refund import duties it collected. Since the court ruled that Trump’s tariffs are illegal, companies have already received refunds for the tax—but consumers have already paid higher prices in the meantime.
