Mango has been the victim of a cyberattack in which hackers stole personal customer data, but no passwords or bank details. The IT systems were not affected.
Systems not affected
On Tuesday morning, Mango informed a large number of customers about the breach by email. The attack took place via an external marketing service provider, which managed customers’ personal data for marketing purposes. Mango emphasizes that its own systems have not been compromised and that security is functioning normally. The hackers gained access to data such as name, country, postal code, email address, and telephone number, but bank information and passwords have not been compromised.
Mango says it has notified the Spanish Data Protection Authority (AEPD) of the situation and immediately activated its security protocols. The company advises its customers to be alert to suspicious communications, both by email and telephone.
This is yet another incident in a long line of retailers being hit by cyber hackers. Marks & Spencer, Harrod’s, Tendam, El Corte Inglés, Louis Vuitton, and Kering, among others, have also recently fallen victim to cybercrime.
