Ikea sees 72 % growth as proof of second-hand strategy

Ikea is increasing its focus on second-hand sales. Last year, Belgian customers returned 72 % more items of furniture to the chain’s stores, giving the retailer more than enough reason to expand its second-hand marketplace to new markets.

Last financial year, customers in Belgium returned 12,300 items of used furniture via the chain’s Buyback Service, a growth of 72 % compared to the year before. That growth is still accelerating: in the current financial year, they have already returned 11,600 products. The most returned products are storage furniture (for children), desks and chairs.
