Carrefour and Coopérative U bid for another batch of French Colruyt stores

Only five French branches of Colruyt have yet to find a buyer, now that Carrefour and Coopérative U have each made an offer. The Belgian retailer continues to search for reliable buyers.

Difficult cases

Carrefour has made an offer for three Colruyt stores in Alsace: the stores in Drusenheim, Gries and Herrlisheim, according to LSA. Coopérative U wants to take over the supermarkets in Saulxures-sur-Moselotte (Vosges) and Chalindrey (Haute Marne). Both retailers have confirmed the news.

Following Colruyt Group’s decision to cease its French activities, 81 stores have already been taken over by Groupement Mousquetaires, the group behind the Intermarché and Netto supermarket chains. Market leader E.Leclerc ultimately took over 14 stores. This leaves only five stores for which no solution has yet been found. Colruyt says it is still looking for reliable buyers. However, these are said to be more difficult cases, as the outlets in question require considerable investment or have limited commercial potential.
