As a result of the recent cyberattack, Albert Heijn lost a significant amount of market share in the Netherlands last week. Jumbo and the online supermarket Picnic, in particular, were able to capitalize on the market leader’s difficulties.

Shoppers delayed purchases

Albert Heijn’s market share, which stands at about 37% in the Netherlands, fell sharply last week to 28%, according to figures shared by market research firm Hiiper with the FD. Jumbo’s market share rose by nearly four percentage points during the same period, from about 20% to 24%. Plus and Lidl also saw an increase. In relative terms, online supermarket Picnic was the biggest winner, with a 20% increase.
