Zalando opens two new outlet stores

Outlet stores are becoming more important in Zalando‘s business model: two new stores are to open this summer, with many more to come.

Discounts up to 70%

After the success of several pop-up stores and the concept store Zalando Beauty Station in Berlin, Zalando eyes growth in its outlet stores. Two new stores, in Leipzig and Hamburg, are to open later this year. Like its older siblings in Berlin, Cologne and Frankfurt am Main, they will be easily accessible in city centres and offer 20,000 products from 500 different brands (including Zalando’s private labels) on around 1000 sqm of floor space. “We will offer discounts of up to 70 % for items we can’t sell online any more, for example if they are missing a button or if they go out of our range”, Zalando Outlets’ managing director Dorothee Schönfeld says.

Online will always be Zalando’s priority, but outlets are becoming an integral part of its business model, she says. “The bigger Zalando becomes, the bigger the need for our own outlets. The two new outlets will not be the last ones to open.” The stores will feature a stylish design with wide aisles and spacious fitting rooms: the store in Cologne (pictured) even received a German Design Award.
