Gamma closed two stores in Brussels this summer. The home improvement chain says it is doing so for “business reasons.” The retailer lost market share in Belgium last year.
No plans to reopen
On July 1, Gamma closed its store on Stallestraat in Uccle. In early August, the branch on Korte Hertstraat in Anderlecht also shut its doors, as Bruzz discovered. Parent company Intergamma cites “business reasons” as the cause and provides no further explanation.
In any case, there are no plans for Gamma to return to Brussels in the near future. However, the DIY chain will retain stores on the outskirts of Brussels, including in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Halle, and Machelen.
Earlier this year, the retailer reported that its market share in Belgium fell by 0.2% in 2025, in a DIY market that has been under pressure for some time. Recently, competition has intensified with the opening in Machelen of the first 20,000 m² store by newcomer Colos, which plans to open ten to fifteen stores in Belgium over time.
