The bankrupt Dutch sustainable jeans brand Mud Jeans has found a buyer: entrepreneur Nick de Ronde Bresser, who also relaunched the bankrupt shoe brand Van Lier last year.
“Mud is back”
The bankruptcy trustee for Mud Jeans—the circular brand that went bankrupt in early August due to a heavy debt burden—sold the inventory, brand rights, website, and domain names earlier this month for 255,000 euros to N5 Holding, the company owned by Nick de Ronde Bresser, who also relaunched the bankrupt shoe brand Van Lier last year. This is evident from the bankruptcy report. The online store is now live again: “Mud is back, built better,” the homepage announces.
Mud Jeans, founded in 2012, pioneered jeans made from recycled cotton, introduced repair and take-back services that became standard practice, and sought to demonstrate that circularity is truly achievable in the fashion industry. However, the company’s historical debt burden proved too heavy, and due to heat waves, demand for jeans has been lower than expected in recent months.
