While the Cora hypermarkets are organising a clearance sale in their non-food departments, real estate developer Mitiska REIM starts the transformation of the sites. It has already found new tenants for 40 % of the area.
Redevelopment begins
The seven Cora hypermarkets in Belgium will close their doors in early 2026, but investor Mitiska REIM is not waiting for the closure to already start redeveloping the properties. The plan is to redevelop the sites – located in Anderlecht, Boussu, Châtelineau, La Louvière, Liège, Messancy and Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe – into modern and sustainable shopping centres with supermarkets and other retailers.
The first renovation phase starts as early as 1 October. The former Cora hypermarket spaces will be split into several new retail properties, of which the first will open as early as January. These include four branches of Dreamland, which will open a large store on each of the seven sites. Contracts have since been signed for more than 40 % of the area. The real estate developer will announce more names in the coming weeks.
The Cora stores will remain open for just a while longer, allowing customers to do their shopping there and the nonfood departments to finish their clearance sales with attractive discounts. The stores in the Shopping Cora galleries will also remain open. As part of the transformation plan, they will also be upgraded.
