Sixty candidates are vying for Batavus and Sparta

No fewer than sixty parties have approached the receivers of bicycle manufacturer Accell with proposals for a restart of (parts of) the company. Accell, the parent company of brands such as Batavus, Sparta, and Koga, filed for bankruptcy last month.

Debt of 400 million euros

“We are in negotiations with various parties,” according to the report published Tuesday by receivers Thijs Hekman and Erik Schuurs, as reported by the FD. Some interested parties are targeting a single brand, while others want to acquire multiple brands, including the associated inventory. The Irish investment firm Quanta Capital and the Singapore-based Dutech had previously expressed interest. The former management of the French subsidiary Lapierre also came forward.

    It had already been known for some time that Smyths Toys would open its first physical store in Belgium at the City Nord retail park in Gosselies, near Charleroi. Now the date has been set: the store will open its doors on October 15, according to the shopping center’s website.
