GameStop considers withdrawing its takeover bid for eBay

The American chain GameStop is reportedly considering withdrawing its unsolicited takeover bid on eBay and instead opting for a partnership with the online marketplace.

Two different business models

The unsolicited $56 billion (€48.5 billion) bid that GameStop made in May for the much larger eBay was immediately met with a cold rejection by eBay and widespread skepticism among analysts and investors. Now, CEO Ryan Cohen is reportedly looking to strike a different deal, one in which eBay could make use of GameStop’s approximately 1,600 U.S. stores, according to Bloomberg.
