Walmart to sell e-commerce technology to other retailers

Walmart is opening up its e-commerce solutions to other retailers. Through a partnership with Adobe, the supermarket chain will integrate access to its marketplace, as well as its various online and in-store fulfilment and pick-up technologies, into the Adobe Commerce Platform.

Attracting new partners

The technology will be made available to customers of both Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source. According to TechCrunch, the deal will enable Walmart to reach thousands of small to medium-sized retailers, who will then be allowed to use the same tools as the American supermarket chain.

For example, Adobe customers will be able to show available pick-up timeslots or offer their employees mobile tools to help them complete orders. Moreover, the retailers will also be able to sell their products directly on Walmart’s marketplace. Adobe customers will ALSO be able to integrate Walmart tools into their own webshops from the beginning of next year. Prices and other details have not yet been announced.

For Walmart, the cooperation can not only generate new revenue, but it can also become a new weapon in the battle against Amazon for online retail dominance. Walmart’s marketplace currently has around 100,000 sellers – a far cry from Amazon’s 6.3 million.
