Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo has opened its thirteenth Foodmarkt in Echt, in the Dutch province of Limburg, on Wednesday. With a wide range of Belgian and German products, the store specifically targets cross-border shoppers.
The most extensive range
The new Jumbo Foodmarket is 2,500 sqm in size and is located in a very narrow part of the Netherlands, wedged between Belgium and Germany. This supermarket – the very first of its kind in the province – therefore also wants to entice customers from across the country’s borders.
Besides local products (such as asparagus, flans, ice cream, wines and speciality beers), shoppers will also find German coffee brands and Belgian delicacies. Moreover, for the first time, Jumbo also sells household appliances here, such as airfryers and Dolce Gusto machines. The aim is to have a non-food offer at the lowest prices every fortnight. This test matches the retailer’s ambition to offer the most comprehensive range.
The spacious store also offers foodservice concepts such as the Green Grill (with vegetable preparations) or the Chef & Butchers section, which were adapted to fit into smaller Foodmarkt branches as well as larger Jumbo supermarkets. Customers will also find fresh pinsas and focaccia from the oven, and new convenience products including fresh meatball sandwiches and chicken curry.
