In the Netherlands and Belgium, Jumbo is rolling out a very similar promotion this week: 1,000 products with a “buy one, get one free” offer. Part of the product lineup in both countries is identical, but many prices differ.
Same claim, different prices
With a remarkable flyer promotion running from Wednesday, September 2, through Tuesday, September 8, Jumbo is making a strong statement in the Netherlands and Belgium. The offers include both well-known premium brands and Jumbo’s private labels across all product categories. While the Dutch and Belgian flyers make the same claim, they are far from identical. The chipolata featured in the Belgian flyer is not available in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, however, the retailer is running a promotion on Johma salads, which are absent from the Belgian flyer.
For products such as Iglo Fish Cuisine, Hak canned vegetables, or Jumbo stir-fry vegetables, “free” promotions are running in both countries, though the prices are often not identical. After all, the competitive landscape differs significantly. The biggest price difference is for Jumbo lasagna Bolognese (400 grams): with the promotion, it costs 3.83 euros for two trays in the Netherlands, compared to just 2.59 euros in Belgium—a difference of nearly 30%.
Cleaning products cheaper in the Netherlands
The Valess vegetarian Gouda schnitzel (2 pieces/180 g) costs 3.79 euros in the Netherlands and 3.49 euros in Belgium, while the Jumbo salmon fillet (360 grams) costs 6.49 euros in the Netherlands and 6.00 euros in Belgium. No Fairytales bell pepper-chili tortillas cost 2.99 euros for two packages in both countries. Two 250-gram packages of Liga Cracotte plain cost 3.50 euros.
The price is also identical for Pampers Premium Protection. However, when it comes to laundry detergents, Dutch stores are cheaper than Belgian ones; for example, five bottles of Robijn Klein & Krachtig Classics Color (22 washes) cost 35.58 euros in the Netherlands and 35.98 euros in Belgium. Or two Glorix Power Clean Ocean toilet blocks for 3.65 euros in the Netherlands and 3.99 euros in Belgium, and five packs of Sun Ultra Power Plus dishwasher capsules (18 capsules each) for 25.98 euros in the Netherlands and 29.68 euros in Belgium—making them 14% more expensive.
