Russian ultra-discounter Mere is trying again, this time as Basket Plus: the fourth name — if we counted correctly — with which the Siberians are attempting to conquer Europe. This time, Budapest’s 18th district is the place to be.
Off to Budapest
Mere first came to the fore in 2021, when it announced it would open dozens of stores in Austria, Belgium, France, Italy and the United Kingdom. The first Belgian store opened a year later, but barely lasted a few months. A couple of stores opened, but the “dozens” never materialised. Two years later, the chain came back as MyPrice and at the beginning of this year again, this time as Prixy, but neither lasted very long. The last Belgian stores closed their doors on 17 May.
